Rock The Pantry 2024!

The Food Pantry at Oakwood provides more than three days worth of meals up to two times a month for families in Rensselaer County, mostly coming from in and around the Oakwood neighborhood. Weekly in 2024, the pantry has been serving 50-60 households per week, with 1000-1200 meals provided every Saturday. The number of folks coming to our pantry continues to grow, while vital funding we rely on to purchase food has been cut.

Needed Items:

• Keep in mind, if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t donate it. No expired food, no dents or open containers.

• Soup (canned or boxed), rice, mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, mayonnaise, tuna fish, and other staples.

• Personal Hygiene (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, menstrual products)

• Cleaning Products (all purpose cleaner, dish soap, laundry detergent)

Swordpaw Studios will be collecting needed items for the Oakwood Food Pantry at upcoming shows around the region. Hear great local music, support your local pantry.

We are teaming up with local Troy businesses and foundations to raise revenue in support of our mission to bring neighbors together in a welcoming and nourishing space.  Your participation will provide an excellent source of goodwill for your business, and an opportunity for you to support vital programming in the community in which you do business. In addition to much needed dollars, sponsorships could also include being a site for food collection. Sponsors will be listed on our website, social media, and acknowledged at our Final Show at the Hangar on the Hudson on November 23, 2024. Join the Host Committee for Oakwood Community Center’s 2nd Annual Rock the Pantry, and join local musicians from Swordpaw Studios (based at Oakwood) as they rally in support of our community. 

By joining the Host Committee you will help us sustain our Holiday bag program, which provides food and a gift card for 100 families in time for Thanksgiving. The food we collect throughout October and November keep our pantry stocked with important staples as our numbers of families accessing the pantry rise! This week we gave out 1700 meals! Funds raised also go towards supporting our Oakwood Techniques performing arts after school program which currently has 22 3rd through 8th graders learning dance and drumming with local talented performers such as  Latisia Johnson and Trevor Taylor.
